Upper Flat

Upper Flat is an area of swamp located on the eastern side of the Atchafalaya Swamp and accessed from the Grand River boat ramp along the east levee.

The trail through Upper Flat takes paddlers through beautiful stands of new growth cypress trees. Scattered around these 100 year old trees are the remnants of their ancient ancestors. Even with the logging of Upper Flat over 100 years ago, many of the trunks of the old trees remain in the lakes and bayous, serving as a constant reminded of what took place across the Atchafalaya Swamp.
