Trek Day 3

16.9 miles, Bayou Sorrel Campsite to Paradise Campsite

Paddling Environment – "Swamps"

The third day of Trek 2 takes Scouts through the most diverse day of paddling along the trek. The day begins with a paddle through the "tunnel" of Indigo Bayou, past Murphy Lake, south into Cross Bayou, and then into the Blackwater Swamp. In the farthest reaches of the Atchafalaya, the Blackwater Swamp includes opportunities to witness large alligators, bald eagles, and beavers. Crews daring enough to enter the area will have to navigate through a labyrinth of cypress and tupelo trees that fill the waterway. The day concludes with a beautiful paddle in and out of Turkey Bayou before arriving at the Paradise Campsite, a dome shaped island with plenty of trees for hanging hammocks.
