Native Vegetation Planting
Once a vast expanse of a cypress forest, heavy logging within the Atchafalaya Swamp in the early 1900’s devastated the old growth cypress trees and altered the Atchafalaya’s fragile ecosystem forever. Because of the logging and the damage caused by hurricanes, as well as the introduction of invasive species, Scouts are prepared to work with private and State foresters to plant native trees and vegetation throughout the Atchafalaya with the goal to improve and restore natural ecosystems and to reestablish native tree stands.
